On October 22, you will not only elect municipal leaders, but also school board trustees. Learn about what trustees do and be ready to ask them questions.

You can ask them specifically about French Second Language education. To help you get started, we put together a list of sample questions you could ask your school board trustee candidates.

Don’t know who your candidates are? Search the 2018 Ontario Municipal & School Board Elections website.

Questions to ask your school board trustee candidates:

Q1. What are your thoughts on linguistic duality and both of Canada’s official languages being taught in publicly-funded schools?

Q2. What is your personal or your family’s experience with learning French?

Q3. Do you support the current French Immersion or Extended French and Core French programs in your ward or riding?

Q4. If elected, would you support policies and practices that would ensure access to these programs for all students whose parents have chosen that educational path?

Q5. Are you aware that federal and provincial dollars go to each school board to help support all French Second Language programs based on student enrolment in Core French, Extended French and French Immersion?

Q6. What are your thoughts on financial accountability of publicly-funded programs?
