With school closures across the province, parents and guardians are feeling a little uneasy with the amount of school their kids are missing. CPF Ontario has put together a list of resources for you and your child to access to keep up French language learning. View the resources on this page and click here for an additional listing. TIP – Parents are not expected to become teachers, so try to relax and keep it fun.
Ministry’s Province-Wide Strategy for the Continuation of Learning
The Ministry of Education released the first phase of the Learn at Home portal. Find supplementary resources for elementary and secondary students to practice math and literacy skills and learn at home. Switch to “Français” in the top right corner to access resources in French.
The Learn at Home program does not replace what students have been learning at school. However, during this unusual time, these at-home activities offer quick and easy access to some of Ontario’s best online kindergarten to grade 12 learning resources.
Concours virtuel – Ensemble à distance
Canadian Parents for French, along with nation-wide partners, recently launched the Concours virtuel – Ensemble à distance. This is a contest that allows kids to share their stories on how they are spending their time at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Cash prizes for the winners are matched with charitable donations. O’Poésie
Get students exploring their French abilities by using and discovering more about the French language in a creative way! The 4th edition of O’Poésie begins April 1st, 2020 and the deadline to submit entries is June 1, 2020. Prizes will be offered to the top 3 winners in each category. Learn more here.
Continuing to Learn – Even from Home
Netmath is a great online resource aligned with the Ontario curriculum available in both French and English. Students from the Toronto District School Board can sign in with their TDSB Google Accounts.
The French Experiment has free online lessons and course reviews, should students decide to move forward or keep advancing.
News in French allows students to take it to the next level and improve their French listening and speaking skills. The audio recording of today’s News in French is only available to members. Sign up today to gain full access immediately. Membership is just $5/month with a five-day free trial.
lalilo is an online phonics program for distance learning.
Mango Languages allows students to learn or practice French remotely. Search your library system to see if they offer access to this program
Independent Learning Courses offers free 24/7 access to the content of any of their 144 grade 9-12 online English and French courses.
Francolab has videos accompanied by educational activity sheets created by specialists to practice French.
Francolab Junior offers videos and downloadable activities for younger kids.
Les Petites Pommes has begun offering a few different programs since March 25th:
- Free French Chats, a free 30-minute French Chat session for kids between 4-16 years old. Session times are released in their newsletter;
- Weekly French Learning Materials, through their newsletter, they send out tips and worksheets for grammar points that most come up during their tutoring sessions;
- Online Tutoring, they have moved all their tutoring online to help support our current students and also have availability to support new students at this time.
Alliance Française Toronto is offering the possibility to take private lessons at home or at their offices. These courses are entirely tailor-made: your teacher adapts the content to your specific objectives, as well as the timetables and the pace of work.

L’Express is an online magazine for French Second Language students with interesting articles, games and activities.
Kanopy is a streaming service to watch films for library card holders for FREE.
Bibliothèque des Amériques has thousands of digital French books to discover for FREE.

The Forest of Reading is a bilingual project of the Ontario Library Association. Access to books & author resources is now open to all. It is easy to flip between English and French.
