CPF Ontario members care about more and better opportunities for our children to learn and use French! Let’s bring this to the attention of the provincial political parties and our local MPP (Member of Provincial Parliament) candidates who are asking for our vote. Let’s find out what they plan to do to support French learning in Ontario.

Education is a provincial responsibility. The provincial government allocates the funding and sets the curriculum and the policies for French Second Language learning in our schools.

There are lots of opportunities to ask candidates questions – on your doorstep when they come knocking, at all-candidates’ meetings, at election events and on social media #bebilingual.

Here are the questions we have sent to party leaders and their responses:

Liberal Party Response – English.

PC Party Response – English / French.

1. What has been your and your family’s experience with learning French?

2. Will you commit to eliminating waiting lists and lotteries for entry to French immersion programs?

3. Do you support current provincial funding for Core, Extended, and Immersion French programs? How will you ensure these funds are spent on French Second Language programs in local school boards?

4. If elected, how will you and your party ensure that we have an adequate supply of qualified French teachers across Ontario?

5. What will you and your party do to make Ontario a leader in graduating English/French bilinguals from our French Second Language programs?
