Students from across the GTA and surrounding regions gather for a conference on bilingual success
Mississauga, October 27, 2014 – Many opportunities exist for students to achieve bilingual success, and over 750 French Second Language students in Grades 7 and 8 will gather for a conference to explore them.
On November 3-4, 2014 (9:30 to 2:00 p.m), the Pathways for Bilingual Success Conference will bring together students from 11 school boards in the GTA and surrounding regions at The International Centre on 6900 Airport Rd., Mississauga, L4V 1E8.
Guest speakers will address the students on the benefits of official language bilingualism, highlighting the pathways to achieving ongoing bilingual success and the added value that being proficient in both official languages will bring to anyone’s chosen career. In addition, after participating in an interactive workshop designed to encourage enrollment in French Second Language programs through to Grade 12 and at the post-secondary level, students will have the opportunity to visit the exhibitors' area and speak to organizations specializing in exchanges, work programs, local volunteer opportunities and more.
“Exchanges, work programs and more post-secondary opportunities are opening up for students to hone their French-language skills and help meet the demand for future official language bilinguals in the public, private and non-profit sectors and it is important for our older children to have access to this information,” stated Betty Gormley, Executive Director of Canadian Parents for French (Ontario), the sponsoring organization.
We invite the media to join us for the event and a question and answer period at 11:15 a.m. on each day.
This event is made possible by the generous support of the Government of Ontario and the Government of Canada through the Department of Canadian Heritage.
